November 2007 | Vol. 25, No. 11 SVU Member Kathleen Palmieri Named Citizen of the Year in Skaneateles, NY
SVU member Kathleen Palmieri, RN, RVT, recently was named Citizen of the Year by the Skaneateles, NY, Chamber of Commerce for her dedicated service as an active member of the community for 32 years. Whether serving on a school committee, helping establish a fundraiser or working to educate the public on heart health, the Chamber of Commerce said Kathleen has repeatedly given of herself and her resources to the Skaneateles community for many years. On a Friday night in early October a grateful community gathered at the Skaneateles Country Club to pay special tribute to Kathleen as the recipient of the Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2007 Citizen of the Year Award. According to an article in the Skaneateles Journal, upon receiving the award Kathleen said, “This has been an incredibly overwhelming experience for me. My family, Larry, Jen and Matt, my friends, you all make the substance of my soul. This community has shown me a great deal of love, and over the years, you have all found a place in your heart for me, and I really do cherish those relationships. And to all of you I have to say, thank you for this, thank you.” Kathleen moved to Skaneateles, NY, when she was a 24-year-old critical care nurse from Temple University. She went to a meeting hosted by the Jaycees and soon found herself on the Board of the organization’s Newcomers Committee, which began the service trend that has persisted in her life ever since. Other Skaneateles area organizations she participated in over the years include: Mothers’ Cooperative Babysitting Service, including being a Board member, vice president in 1978 and president in 1970; Skaneateles Early Childhood Center Board of Directors for many years; Skaneateles Parent Teacher Council; Skaneateles Symphony Guild Board of Directors, and The Samaritan Center in Syracuse, NY. Most recently, Kathleen, the president and senior consultant of Cardiovascular Technology Resources, a cardiovascular ultrasound consulting service in Skaneateles, has lent her expertise in helping to establish the Heart Health Awareness program at the Skaneateles Community Center. Kathleen served as the chairperson of the event in 2006 and 2007. Kathleen, a member of SVU since 1981, has been a speaker at the SVU Annual Conference and has participated in various SVU committees such as the Education and Annual Conference Program Planning Committee. According to Sandy Katanick, CEO of the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), “Kathy has been a quiet yet persistent force in vascular testing and implementing and maintaining quality in the vascular ultrasound profession for at least 25 years.” On behalf of the SVU Board of Directors, congratulations to Kathleen Palmieri for being named 2007 Citizen of the Year in Skaneateles, NY, and for making a difference in her community. (Editor’s Note: If you are aware of other special recognition being given to an SVU member or a special achievement they received, SVU would like to hear about it.
