Chapter News
Paula Walsh, Chapters Subcommittee Chair
Best Wishes and Thank You to Shelly Burns
In
early August Shelly Burns submitted her resignation from the SVU Board
of Directors because of a conflict of interest as a result of her new
job with the Intersocietal Accreditation Council in Columbia, MD, as
the ICAVL Technical Director. She also stepped down as co-chair of the
Chapters Subcommittee.
Shelly has been an active member of the Northern Ohio Vascular Association
(NOVA) since 1993, having served in a number of administrative roles
including Secretary, President-Elect, President, and NOVA Board member.
She became a member of SVU in 1999. She has served as a Regional Chapters
Advisor, before becoming co-chair of the Chapters Committee from 2002
to 2003, chair from 2004 to 2006 and co-chair again in 2007 along with
me. In June 2006, Shelly was elected to a three year term (2007-2009)
as a Board Director. The Executive Committee has appointed George Berdejo
to fill Shelly’s open position on the Board
Shelly was instrumental in the development and implementation of the
chapter website templates for the SVU website. She has also developed
the SVU Chapter President’s Guidelines, got several new Chapter
Regional Advisors, started work on the developing a Student Chapters
Subcommittee, and was instrumental in getting chapter contributions
for the former SVU Silent Auction at the Annual Conference, and chapter
contributions for this year’s first Chapters Subcommittee Breakfast
at the Baltimore Annual Conference that we hope will be an annual event.
Those of us who have had the pleasure of working with Shelly are grateful
for her patient leadership. Thank you Shelly for the dedication and
enthusiasm you have brought to the Chapters Subcommittee and the SVU
Board of Directors. We wish you only the best in your new venture.
Central Virginia Vascular Technologists Chapter Makes Donation to
Anne Jones Scholarship Fund
Recently the Central Virginia Vascular Technologists (CVVT) affiliated
chapter made an $885 donation to the SVU Anne Jones Scholarship Fund
for an educational scholarship in 2008 for a deserving vascular ultrasound
student.
The money was donated to CVVT by the friends and family of a former
patient at Virginia Surgical Associates, P.C., in Richmond, VA. Paul
Snyder was a long term patient of Virginia Surgical Associates who developed
a relationship with the technologists who performed his vascular studies.
Upon his death, his family requested that in lieu of flowers that donations
be made in his name to the Central Virginia Vascular Technologists because
of the care and dedication that the technologists demonstrated to him
over the years. CVVT donated the $885 in contributions received in Mr.
Snyder’s name to the SVU Anne Jones Scholarship Fund so that the
money can be used to help another technologist gain the education and
support needed to provide quality vascular exams to their patients.
The SVU Board of Directors expresses sincere thanks to the family
of Paul Snyder, the staff at Virginia Surgical Associates, and the members
of the Central Virginia Vascular Technologists affiliated chapter for
the generous contribution to the SVU Anne Jones Scholarship Fund.
