North Jersey Vascular Association
The North Jersey Vascular Association (NJVA) held it annual spring
meeting on April 28 at Morristown Memorial Hospital and it was well
attended. The program consisted of lectures regarding the historical
perspective of operations on the venous system and incidental findings
during lower extremity venous evaluation given by Dr. Harry Agis
and Dr. Mark Oliver, respectively. Dr. Raymond Holmes addressed
dialysis access options. George Berdejo “got down to basics”
with the clinical spectrum of cerebrovascular testing. Jeff Alair,
our student presenter, shared an interesting case of iliac aneurysm
diagnosis and treatment. Ergonomics in the Vascular Lab was presented
by Kevin Lawless with membership participation in proper posture,
and exercises to relieve stress.
At our business meeting, amendments to our Bylaws regarding leadership
offices were made. Going forward, there will be three NJVA officers
instead of the original four. They will include President, President-Elect/Secretary
and Treasurer with a two year term limit. Hopefully, this will increase
membership involvement in the running and holding of office. Volunteers
and nominations for officers were requested. Elections will be held
at our fall meeting.
Involvement on a chapter and national level by chapter members
was addressed. On that note, it was decided to offer a donation
to the SVU Government Relations Fund to assist in SVU’s ongoing
regulatory and legislative advocacy work.
A national meeting scholarship will be offered starting in 2008
to cover the cost of the registration for the SVU Annual Conference.
The candidate will have to present a case study or submit a written
case study. This will be evaluated by a committee of three senior
chapter members, including the President. A check will be given
to the winner.
The subject of a chapter website was discussed with the membership.
The Board will look into the possibility of having a basic web page
for NJVA on the SVU website.
The membership was given an update on the CARE bill presently before
the Senate and its effect on credentialing of vascular technologists.
NJVA wishes all the SVU members a wonderful summer. SEE YOU IN BALTIMORE.
Chapters Breakfast
There will be a Chapters Breakfast on Friday morning, June 8th
in Baltimore in Room 325 of the Baltimore Convention Center. Thank
you to the four chapters – NJVA, KVS, NYCVUA, and ONKIVT --
who contributed funds so far to the Chapters Breakfast; we hope
to see a large representative turnout of Chapter officers to meet
with the potential new membership from your areas. At last count
we have representatives attending the breakfast from 11 SVU affiliated
chapters. If you have some specific literature you would like to
share with potential new members please feel free to bring it to
the breakfast.
OTVA and VASO
Oregon Technical Vascular Association (OTVA) and Vascular Association
of Southern Oregon (VASO) conducted a combined meeting last month.
The speaker was Kirk Beach, PhD, MD of the University of Washington
who spoke on “Measurements of the Microcirculation and Tissue
Perfusion from the Vulnerable Plaque to Incipient Venous Ulceration.”
The lecture covered new research on ultrasound birametry and its
potential clinical applications. In addition to the talk, the 20
attendees from around the Puget Sound region were able to observe
a display of software from MED Streaming’s CEO Wael Elseaidy,
who specialized in health care information technologies. The program
was held at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Tacoma, WA, and
2 CME’s were offered.
