Five Educational Scholarships Awarded for 2007 SVU Annual Conference

Thanks to a generous $5,000 educational grant from Philips Medical Systems, which is part of their Platinum Sponsorship of SVU’s 2007 Annual Conference, SVU recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to five SVU members to attend the 2007 Annual Conference in Baltimore in June. Members interested in attending the 2007 Annual Conference but who couldn’t afford to go on their own were asked to write a 400-word or less essay explaining why SVU should award an Annual Conference scholarship to them.

A judging panel of SVU Fellows reviewed each of the essays received and selected the following five SVU members to receive a $1,000 scholarship to help pay for their Annual Conference registration, hotel and travel costs to attend the 2007 SVU Annual Conference:

  • Sheila Byrd-Raynor of Harrow, Middlesex, England
  • Kelly R. Byrnes of Georgetown, Indiana
  • Makenzie M. Carr of Sacramento, California
  • Meagan Lehman of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
  • James Moor of Portland, Oregon

If you are in Baltimore at the SVU Annual Conference and you see any of the five above scholarship recipients, say hello to them and congratulate them on their achievement.

The SVU Board of Directors is very grateful to Philips for providing again an unrestricted $5,000 educational grant so that five deserving SVU members, who otherwise would be unable to be in Baltimore, are able to receive a $1,000 scholarship to enable them to attend the 2007 Annual Conference.
