August 2006 | Vol. 24, No. 8 Industry NewsARDMS to Hold Public Hearing on SPI ExaminationThe American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) has announced the ARDMS Certification Committee will hold a public hearing on August 26, 2006 concerning the summary and analysis of comments from the ultrasound community as to whether ARDMS should retain, modify or eliminate prerequisites for the future Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) Examination. The ARDMS Certification Committee had requested comments from the ultrasound community on whether or not there should be clinical and didactic prerequisite requirement(s) for the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SDPI) Examination. SVU did submit comments on this to ARDMS. The public session hearing, which anyone may attend, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, from 9:00 am to Noon at the Embassy Suites Hotel at Chevy Chase Pavilion, 4300 Military Road, NW, Washington, DC. SVU expects to have a representative make a presentation at the public hearing.
As SVU reported in the April e-Spectrum newsletter, the Vascular Disease Foundation (VDF) has been selected as an official Associated Charity in the Oct. 22, 2006 LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. SVU is a partnering organization in the VDF. At that time we asked SVU members to consider joining the VDF team in the 2006 Chicago Marathon. However, the Chicago Marathon reached its 40,000 participant cap in late-May, closing weeks ahead of expectations. While there are no longer slots available to runners, the VDF could still use your help. It is the VDF’s first year with the Chicago Marathon and they want to start with a BANG! Their goal is to raise $50,000 in contributions for the VDF Team in the race. By sponsoring a runner or donating to VDF, you could help raise awareness about vascular disease. To visit the VDF team site go to http://www.active.com/donate/vasculardisease. From this site you will be able to access the individual web pages of the VDF team members and make a credit card donation to the VDF. Or mail your race contribution to the VDF at 1075 S. Yukon St., Suite 320, Lakewood, CO 80226. Running a marathon is hard work and the 24 runners that make up Team VDF could certainly use your support and encouragement. According to the VDF, this is the first time that a group has supported vascular disease at any marathon. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this great cause. Whether you’re a participant or a spectator of the 2006 Chicago Marathon on Oct. 22, the VDF asks SVU members and other vascular technologists in the Chicago area to stop by the VDF booth at the LaSalle Bank Health and Fitness Expo at the McCormick Place Convention Center on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21, 2006, prior to the race. VolunteerIf you live in Chicago, the VDF is asking for volunteers for the VDF booth at the health and fitness expo at the McCormick Place Convention Center on Friday and Saturday, October 20 and 21. They also need volunteers on race day to help as the VDF team prepares to run, and to cheer them on at different locations along the race and at the finish line. For information about volunteering send an email to the VDF at info@vdf.org or call them 1-888-VDF-4INFO. Or go to the VDF website at www.vdf.org for more information and click on the Chicago Marathon link. Thanks for your help. |
