New Student Representative Selected for Board of Directors

For the second year in a row, SVU has again selected and appointed a SVU student member to serve as the student representative on the SVU Board of Directors for a one-year term. The purpose of the student representative, representing all vascular technology students in accredited ultrasound programs, is to bring the vascular students’ perspective to the Board on various issues. This is also an excellent opportunity for a student to learn about the inner operation of SVU under the direction of the Board of Directors.

SVU received applications and resumes from 10 student members for this unpaid, non-voting term on the Board of Directors. After a thorough review of the submitted applications and resumes by an ad hoc judging committee, Bruce A. Mashburn, a vascular ultrasound student at Coosa Valley Technical College, Rome, GA, was selected to be the new student representative on the Board of Directors, effective with the May 31 Board meeting in Philadelphia, prior to SVU’s 29th Annual Conference. His travel, hotel and meal expenses will be covered by SVU. He also will attend the December 2006 SVU Board meeting and participate in any Board conference calls through the end of his term on May 1, 2007.

Bruce succeeds Robert Sexton of the Oregon Institute of Technology, Klamath Falls, OR, who was the first student representative on last year’s Board of Directors.

A detailed profile on Bruce will be done in a future issue of e-Spectrum, SVU’s online newsletter on the SVU website. Thanks to the nine other excellent vascular technology students who submitted applications for the student representative position on the Board.
