April 3 is Deadline for Student Board Representative Applications

The SVU Board of Directors has announced the solicitation of applications for the SVU Student Representative position on the Board, effective May 1, 2006. In April 2005 Robert Sexton of the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT), Klamath Falls, OR, was selected to be SVU’s first student representative on the SVU Board of Directors for a year, effective June 1, 2005. He attended the Dec. 2005 Board Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA.

SVU is now accepting applications from student members who are interested in being the new student representative to the SVU Board for the 2006-2007 school year. This is a great opportunity for a Student Member of SVU to learn about the inner workings of the SVU, and in return contribute his/her input and unique student perspective to the SVU Board. The selected Student Board Representative will serve a one-year, unpaid, non-voting term on the SVU Board of Directors, effective May 1, 2006. The selected student will attend the 2006 SVU Annual Conference at the Vascular Annual Meeting 2006 in Philadelphia, June 1-3, including the SVU Board of Directors meeting on May 31, 2006. The selected Student Representative’s travel, meal and hotel expenses will be covered by SVU. However, if the selected Student Representative is unable to attend the May 31, 2006 Board meeting for whatever reason, they will be replaced on the Board with another Student Board Representative applicant. Attendance at the two SVU Board meetings is mandatory.

The Student Board Representative also will serve on either the SVU Chapters Committee or Membership Committee of his/her choosing. Once selected, SVU will profile the new Student Board Representative in an issue of the e-Spectrum online newsletter. At the conclusion of the student’s year-long appointment to the SVU Board of Directors, he/she will be expected to write an article for e-Spectrum describing his/her experiences with SVU Board and committee service.

The only requirements for a student to apply to SVU for this unique opportunity are: (1) current enrollment in an accredited ultrasound program, and (2) student membership in SVU, which is a great value at only $25/year. To apply, download a Student Board Representative Application (PDF) from the SVU website at http://www.svunet.org/mo/Student_Representative_Form.pdf.

Interested SVU student members must submit to SVU a completed Student Board Representative Application Form and current Curriculum Vitae by April 3, 2006 by email to the SVU national office at studentapplication@svunet.org for consideration. Thanks and good luck!
