March 2006 | Vol. 24, No. 3 Chapter NewsBy Shelly Burns, RVT LPN Joint Chapters Conference at OIT - AddendumIn last month’s e-Spectrum newsletter, the Northwest Vascular Technologists (NWVT) affiliated chapter was proud to report that our 20th Annual Meeting was held in conjunction with the first Joint Chapters Conference at Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) in Klamath Falls, Oregon. We at NWVT would like to additionally acknowledge the fact that this conference was truly a “Joint Conference.” Not only was the first SVU student chapter, “Oregon Tech Vascular Association” involved, but also sponsoring this conference was the Intermountain Vascular Technologists (IVT) affiliated chapter from Boise, Idaho, and the Vascular Association of Southern Oregon (VASO) affiliated chapter. As NWVT president, I would like to publicly thank everyone, from all chapters involved, for making the conference at OIT the incredible success that it was. Sincerely, Greater Boston Vascular Technologists (GBVT)The Greater Boston Vascular Technologists have tentatively scheduled its spring 2006 meeting on May 13 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Worcester, MA. Guest speaker will be Marsha M. Neumyer, BS, RVT, FSVU, International Director at Vascular Diagnostic Educational Services in Harrisburg, PA. Additional speakers will be announced at a later date. A special thank you to Unetixs Vascular for their sponsorship of the spring meeting and for donating the fold-up bike that is going to be raffled off there. Houston Society of Non-Invasive Vascular Technology (HSNIVT)The Holiday spirit rang well into the month of January as the HSNIVT held its overdue Holiday party on January 25, 2006. Norm and Carolyn Middleton of CVE Systems, distributor of Parks arterial testing devices, sponsored the event at Ben Taub Hospital. There were 39 registered attendees and three new members joined the group. We also kicked off the College Scholarship in Vascular Technology and job posting/recruiting capabilities now available through the HSNIVT website. Norm Middleton discussed the values of arterial waveform analysis in various arterial disease states. He brings many years of sales and applications experience to the HSNIVT and we are happy to have him as a speaker and member. Carolyn fed the crowd with a festive meal catered in from the Olive Garden restaurant. After the meeting Donna Lewis gave away door prizes that were truly special. These meetings are a great opportunity to network and spend quality time with your peers and colleagues. North Jersey Vascular Association (NJVA)The Annual Spring Meeting for the North Jersey Vascular Association will be on May 6, 2006 at Saint Claire's Medical Center in Denville, NJ. We are again very lucky to have a number of well known speakers for that day, including internationally known Dr. Mark Oliver to speak on Acute vs. Chronic DVT. We also have Dr. Audry VonPoelnitz, a cardiologist, to lecture us on the effects of cardiac disease on vascular exams. Other lectures will include TCD, complications of endovascular procedures, and stenting of leg arteries. Our vascular students from UMDNJ will be presenting two oral presentations. Other ultrasound schools in our area have expressed interest in attending our spring meeting. As always our vendors will participate and present updates on their equipment. If anyone is interested in attending that is not a member of the NJVA chapter, please contact Jeanette Flannery at JeFlannery@sbhcs.com. |
