Chapter News
By Shelly Burns, RVT LPN
Chair, Chapters Committee
North Jersey Vascular Association (NJVA)
by Jeanette Flannery RVT, RDMS, President, North Jersey Vascular
Association
Thank you to Nicole Abate and her staff of Hackensack University
Medical Center for hosting NJVA’s Annual Fall Meeting. It
was well attended and the chapter acquired 20 new members at the
meeting. These were mostly SVU members who were notified of the
local chapter through the mailing of NJVA chapter information. Velocity
criteria, post carotid stenting, pre-and post-operative evaluation
of venous insufficiency, and dialysis access complications were
the forefront topics of a day of very informative and interesting
lectures. The discussion on nutrition gave a new insight to the
importance of diet and weight control and their effect on the vascular
system. The chapter officers for 2004-2005 were applauded and thanked
for their work and contributions. The new officers for 2006-2007
were introduced and were given encouragement for their upcoming
term. Jeanette Flannery and Virginia Vyniski remain President and
Treasurer, respectfully. Our new Vice President is Carol Cooper
from Morristown Memorial Hospital, and our new Secretary is Vicky
Galofaro from Chilton Memorial Hospital.
Happy holidays to all from the North Jersey Vascular Association.
Central Virginia Vascular
Technologists (CVVT)
The Central Virginia Vascular Technologists' (CVVT) most recent
chapter meeting was held on October 27 at Memorial Regional Hospital
in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Jan Broughton, RVT, an employee at
Henrico Doctors Hospital's Parham Campus, provided an in-depth lecture
on Leriche Syndrome. This was our last meeting for the 2005 calendar
year. Our organization holds bi-monthly weeknight meetings, and
the meeting locations rotate among facilities in the greater Richmond
area. Our next chapter meeting will be held in January 2006. Additionally
in the fall of 2006, the CVVT, in partnership with the Eastern Virginia
Vascular Technologists (EVVT), will be holding a joint vascular
symposium one weekend in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
If you would like more information about the CVVT or our upcoming
symposium, please contact CVVT President Carol Miranda at CarolMiranda_24@msn.com.

Houston Society of Noninvasive
Vascular Technology (HSNIVT)
by Kathleen M Garcia, BS, RDCS, RVT, HSNIVT President
HSNIVT is in preparations for the remainder of the year which will
include a Christmas Gala in the early part of December. Some of
our main goals for this year were to improve the number and scope
of our education meetings. We also want to include case studies
in each of our educational meetings and are challenging each member
to proctor a challenging case study at each meeting. We have a total
of six educational meetings planned and sponsored for 2006.
I am happy to serve on the HSNIVT and am eager to grow and expand
our society.
