2005 SVU Outstanding Chapter Individual Recognition Award

Margaret Park from the Northern Ohio Vascular Association (NOVA) was the winner of this award announced in Chicago at the SVU 2005 Annual Conference. Margaret has been an integral part of NOVA for many years, volunteering her time as Secretary, and being responsible for applying for CMEs from SVU. She is relentless in her need to obtain speaker handouts for the NOVA meetings. Margaret is well-known to both vendors and speakers because she participates in this area as well. Without her, NOVA could not pull off such wonderful meetings. Aside from that, Margaret now works as a Cardiac Research Sonographer, but continues to donate her time and energy to support NOVA and SVU.

2005 SVU Affiliated Chapter Recognition Award

The Northern Ohio Vascular Association (NOVA) and the North Jersey Vascular Association (NJVA) were the dual winners of this award. Both chapters met six out of seven criteria to win this recognition for 2005. Criteria included:

  • Timely renewal with SVU
  • Contributions to SVU’s e-Spectrum online newsletter
  • Offering 10 CME to membership per year
  • Promotion of SVU membership at local meetings
  • Monetary donation to SVU
  • Contribution to the SVU Annual Conference
  • Student involvement at a chapter meeting

Congratulations to all of these winners for all they have done for SVU!

SVU Silent Auction

There was 50 percent participation by the SVU affiliated chapters in the Silent Auction at the SVU Annual Conference this year in Chicago. A total of $1,810 was raised in the Silent Auction with the proceeds going to SVU’s Government Relations Fund. Many great items were available to bid on including a digital camera, DVD player, and Ipods. We hope that more SVU affiliated chapters will participate in the Silent Auction next year at SVU’s 29th Annual Conference at the Vascular Annual Meeting 2006 in Philadelphia, June 1-3, 2006.

Combined Chapters/Membership Committees’ Meeting in Chicago

The Chapter/Membership Committees’ meeting in Chicago during the SVU Annual Conference was well-attended with representation from 11 affiliated chapters. Some items discussed included a new membership drive to induce group membership from larger labs, new tools for chapters include a vendor letter to obtain sponsors for a chapter meeting, the updating of the SVU PowerPoint presentation for use by the chapters, and a possible speaker list by region with contact names/numbers. Also attending the meeting were SVU President George Berdejo, SVU Vice President Michael Schwebler, SVU Executive Director Steve Haracznak, SVU Director of Meetings & Membership Missi McLean, and SVU Membership Committee Chair David Parlato.
