SVU Has a Record Membership Year in 2004

2005 promises to be truly exciting for the SVU as we’re coming off a record-setting membership year in 2004. Our total membership now exceeds 3900, with a record-setting 680 new members joining in 2004! It is heartening to see this many vascular technologists, vascular physicians, students and others actively choosing to show pride in their profession by becoming an SVU member, and also recognizing the excellence and value in SVU educational programming, advocacy efforts, products and services to the vascular ultrasound profession. In addition, of our renewing members for 2005, 262 members have voluntarily contributed more than $7,000 to the SVU Government Relations Fund, and 48 members also contributed another $1000 to the SVU Operations Fund. SVU sincerely thanks these members for their generous voluntary contributions which reflect their support of the work the SVU performed on their behalf in 2004.

SVU President George Berdejo has issued a challenge to the membership: to double the new member recruitment for 2005! To garner 1400 new members will take a major effort from each one of us as well as the SVU Affiliated Chapters. Let me take this opportunity to revisit our recruitment theme: “Each One - Reach One.” Most of our members work in an environment where they encounter at least one fellow vascular professional who is not now an SVU member. No need to color inside the lines here, we have a sizeable number of physician members (23%), and other industry representatives, etc. Be creative; you know better than anyone what the SVU provides its members, and you know people you work with who could and do benefit from the efforts of SVU. The math is simple: if “Each One” (current member) reaches just one non-member to join SVU we could have 3900 new members at the end of 2005. George’s challenge is less than half that. Possible? Of course! But not without your help.

For our part, the SVU Membership Committee is looking at other creative ways to attract new members and keep our current members. Look for additional information in coming E-Spectrum issues on the SVU website. Thanks in advance for your membership recruitment help in the coming year. We’ll keep you posted on our progress.
