New SVU Chapters Committee Southeast Region Advisor
We have a new Regional Advisor for the SVU Southeast Chapter Region. Maureen Maynard, RVT, RDMS RTR, of Tampa, FL, has graciously accepted to take on this role on and assist us in maintaining communication with the SVU Affiliated Chapters in the Southeastern Region. The chapters in this region are Central Virginia Vascular Technologists (CVVT), Eastern Virginia Vascular Technologists (EVVT), Kentucky Vascular Society (KVS), North Carolina Vascular Technologists (NCVT), and Suncoast Society of Vascular Technology (SSVT). Maureen will be getting in contact soon with each of these affiliated chapters. She can be reached at mtmaynard@hotmail.com.
Chapter President Survey
A few weeks ago we sent a survey to all SVU Affiliated Chapter Presidents concerning a Chapters ListServ. SVU is going to develop this so the chapter presidents can communicate more easily with each other, the Chapters Committee and SVU. So far, we have only received 9 out of 22 chapter surveys back and only 1 student chapter. I urge the remaining Chapter Presidents to please take the time to complete this survey and fax it back to Frankie Hamme at SVU at 301-459-5651. We want you on board the SVU Chapter Presidents ListServ.
Role of Chapter Presidents
Part of your role as a Chapter President is participating on the Chapters Committee. We want your feedback as we try to develop an agenda that every chapter can use, new and old. Please let us know what works for your meetings. Notify your regional advisor or myself at burnss@summa-health.org.
Red River Valley Vascular Society
The Red River Valley Vascular Society (RRVVS) recently had a Current Issues Conference and 2004 Annual Meeting on back to back weekend days in early October. The two meetings, which were attended by approximately 80 people, were held in central Minnesota. According to RRVVS President Jill Beithon, the Current Issues Conference included presentations on lab accreditation, the ARDMS breast exam, new ARDMS Clinical Verification Form, various staffing issues, patient care, the ARDMS Fetal Echo Exam, vascular education materials, CPT Codes, OB exams, quality assurance and segmental pressure exams. In addition, representatives of both St. Cloud Technical College and Argosy University spoke about their sonography education programs. Representatives of both DataCheck and GE-Amersham also did presentations on their products.
The RRVVS Annual Meeting included three speakers: Gail Size who spoke on carotid testing, venous imaging and lab accreditation; Mani Montazemi who spoke on hepatoportal imaging and renal artery duplex; and Dr. Steven Feinstein who spoke on contrast imaging in vascular exams. Also at the RRVVS Fall Business Meeting, SVU Board member Judy Fried, who also is a member of the RRVVS Affiliated Chapter, urged the attendees to join SVU. Election of 2005 RRVVS officers was held with the following results:
- President: Dione Bohl, Minot, ND
- Secretary: Jill Beithon, Fergus Falls, ND
- Treasurer: Tamie Kostelecky, Fargo, ND
- President-Elect: Judy Fried, Bismarck, ND
Federal Tax ID for Affiliated Chapters
Some chapters have requested information on a Federal Tax ID number. It is best if all affiliated chapters are set up as a 501 ©(3) non-profit organization. By doing so you do not have to pay federal taxes, except for Unrelated Business Information Tax (UBIT), such as on advertising revenue. Every chapter should have a federal tax ID #, and a tax attorney can apply for one for your chapter if you do not have one now. SVU Affiliated chapters are not included under SVU’s Federal Tax ID # because we do not control your revenue. For additional questions on a Federal Tax ID #, please consult with a tax attorney.
