New SVU Midwest Regional Advisor

We have a new Chapters Committee Regional Advisor for the Midwest Chapter Region. Margaret Park, RVT, RDCS, of Brooklyn, OH, has graciously accepted to take on this role and assist us in maintaining communication with the chapters in the Midwest Region. The chapters in this Midwest Region are Chicago Area Vascular Association (CAVA), Midwest Regional Noninvasive Vascular Society (MRNVS), Northern Ohio Vascular Association (NOVA), and Ohio Northern Kentucky Indiana Vascular Technologists (ONKIVT). Margaret will be getting in contact with each of these affiliated chapters soon. She also can be reached at marpark1@sbcglobal.net.


Regional Advisor Needed for Southeast Region

We still have one regional position to fill in the Southeast Region. Any SVU member interested in being a larger part of the SVU should contact me. We would love to have your assistance.


Southwest Area Vascular Association

We also welcome the addition of the Southwest Area Vascular Association (SAVA) chapter, led by President Gail Size of Inside Ultrasound. This new affiliated chapter was formed in May 2004 and consists of 15 members. If you live in the southwest and are interested in becoming a member of SAVA, please contact Gail at inultra@msn.com.


North Jersey Vascular Association

The annual Fall meeting of the North Jersey Vascular Association (NJVA) will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2004.  Two lectures will be give in the morning session, including one by SVU CME Committee Chair Joseph Hughes titled “Earning CME's At Your Own Institution,” and another on ergonomics in the vascular lab by Kevin Lawless, Director of Physical Medicine/Rehab.  The late morning and afternoon sessions will be devoted to an open forum discussion. Topics to be included, but not limited to, are: D-dimer and after hour call, preliminary vs. official reporting, and communications between the vascular tech, referring physician and medical staff.  Invited guests to lead these topics will include Dr. Bruce Brener, Medical Director of the Vascular Lab at NBIMC; Dr. Patrick Hinfey, Associate Director of the ER Residency Program; and Dr Michael Ombrelllino, an interpreting physician at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
