SVU Publishes Three New Vascular Technology Professional Performance Guidelines

The Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) recently published three new Vascular Technology Professional Performance Guidelines, which are an adjunct to the Scope of Practice for the Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional© and the Clinical Practice Standards for the Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional©. These new SVU Guidelines extend and refine those general Standards, which reflect behavior and performance levels expected in vascular technology clinical practice to better reflect the day-to-day practice of vascular technology.

The three new SVU Professional Performance Guidelines posted on the SVU website are:

  • Lower Extremity Venous Insufficiency Evaluation
  • Noninvasive Evaluation for Thoracic Outlet Compression Syndrome
  • Upper Extremity Arterial Segmental Physiologic Evaluation

There are now 15 SVU Professional Performance Guidelines posted on the SVU website. To view all guidelines, click here.

These Vascular Technology Professional Performance Guidelines represent the minimal essential elements of performance as recommended by the SVU. They are not designed to replace internally generated, laboratory specific protocols, but intended to serve as a basis for developing or updating the procedure(s) described.

These Professional Performance Guidelines were developed by members of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) as a guide to aid the vascular technologist/sonographer and other interested parties. It implies a consensus of those substantially concerned with its scope and provisions. SVU Guidelines may be revised or withdrawn at any time. However, SVU procedures require that action be taken to reaffirm, revise, or withdraw each Guideline no later than three years from the date of publication.

No part of these Copyrighted Guidelines may be reproduced in any form, in an electronic retrieval system or otherwise, without the prior written permission of SVU.
