August 2004 | Vol. 22, No. 8 SVU Announces First Affiliated Student ChaptersSVU is pleased to announce the formation of its first two Affiliated Student Chapters — the Oregon Tech Vascular Association (OTVA) at the Oregon Institute of Technology, Klamath Falls, OR, and the Philadelphia Regional Vascular Student Chapter (PRVSC) at Thomas Jefferson University, Jefferson College of Health Professions, Philadelphia, PA. Special thanks to former SVU Chapters Committee Chair Debbie Pirt for formalizing the idea of Affiliated Student Chapters to go along with SVU’s 22 local, regional and state affiliated chapters. SVU believes that if we can get the students involved with SVU while they are going to school, either as a student member or as a member of an SVU Affiliated Student Chapter, that they will become a regular member in SVU when they start their first vascular technology position. Debbie was instrumental in getting these first two SVU Affiliated Student Chapters underway. Faculty advisor for the Oregon Tech Vascular Association is LeAnn Maupin, M.Ed, RVT, RT, assistant professor of Medical Imaging Technology at OIT. Faculty advisor for the Philadelphia Regional Vascular Student Chapter is Cynthia Shillingsburg, BA, RVT, RVS, instructor and clinical coordinator at Jefferson College of Health Professions, Thomas Jefferson University. SVU urges it Affiliated Chapters to work with interested vascular ultrasound students in their area in forming additional SVU student chapters at their schools. Vascular students also should be invited to attend the meetings of the local, regional or state chapters. |
