January 2004 | Vol. 22/No. 1 Call for Candidates for 2004 SVU ElectionThe 2004 SVU Nominations Committee, Chaired by 2004 President-Elect Melissa Vickery, is now soliciting candidates for the 2004 Annual Election at the SVU Annual Conference in June 2004 in Anaheim, CA. Although the deadline for nominations is January 9, 2004, there is still time for you submit your name for consideration. In 2004 SVU will be electing a Secretary position for a one-year term from January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2005. The reason for the election of a Secretary for a one-year term is that right before the 2003 Annual Conference in Charlotte, NC, Jean White, the only Secretary candidate for a two-year term (2004-2005), withdrew from the election for family reasons. Since there was no other Secretary candidate, no Secretary was elected in Charlotte for the 2004-2005 term. After checking with SVU's attorney over proper procedure to fill this open Secretary position, in September 2003 the SVU Board appointed Board member Kathleen Carter to serve as Acting Secretary in 2004. At the 2004 election a Secretary will be elected to fill a one-year term (2005). In June 2005, an election will be held to fill all SVU officer positions for a two-year term (2006-2007). Also during the 2004 SVU annual election in Anaheim, CA, three Board of Director positions will be filled for three-year terms from January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2007. If you would like to be considered for nomination as a candidate for either the Secretary position (one-year term) or a Board Director (three-year term), you must
