Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation, 4th Edition (2006)

Frank R. Miele, MSEE

  1. Ultrasound Physics & Instrumentation
  2. Vascular Physics & Instrumentation
  3. Cardiovascular Physics and Instrumentation

Ultrasound Physics, 4th Edition provides a comprehensive discussion of Ultrasound Physics and is designed to thoroughly prepare candidates for their national certification exams on the topics of ultrasound physics, cardiovascular physics and/or vascular physics. A 7-week syllabus is included, directing the reader on how to work through the material on their own. Organized in three levels, the new 4th Edition is appropriate for the beginning student to the practicing sonographer. Level 1 material focuses on underlying physical principles and basic concepts critical for developing skill in the use of diagnostic ultrasound. Level 2 covers topics outlined on certification exams and Level 3 material covers new ultrasound techniques and topics.
The 4th Edition comes with an Animation and Image Library CD-ROM that includes more than 300 videos, animations and images. Each chapter also concludes with a detailed key concepts summary. Containing over 1,300 questions with answers and more than 600 images and figures, the 4th Edition thoroughly explains how physics is involved in current and future sonographers daily scanning activities.

  2. Miele, Vascular Physics and Instrumentation - 16 SDMS CMEs
  3. Miele, Cardiovascular Physics and Instrumentation - 16 SDMS CMEs

Designed to provide an efficient way of preparing for national board exams, each ExamSim Suite CD delivers a customized study plan so you don’t spend time studying material you already know! The CD starts with a full tutorial on test-taking strategies designed to improve your test-taking skills overall. Next, you are asked to take a timed, full-length exam with 120 questions. At the end of the exam, an intelligent patented analysis package delivers hundreds of details as to your specific areas of content strengths and weaknesses. In addition, it provides information on your test taking skills showing you how you can become a better test-taker. Unlimited access is also available to review each question, how you answered, the correct answer and a detailed explanation as to why. Prior to taking the next exam, it is recommended, that you spend time studying the material where you are weak and then try taking the second exam. After working through the third exam and analysis, you can retake the exams following the same process until you feel fully prepared to sit for your registry exam. By using an ExamSim Suite CD to prepare, you will have studied the right material and have spent your valuable study time wisely.

Unifying Ultrasound Physics Review Video

Frank R. Miele, MSEE

In this 90 minute video (available on VHS or DVD), Frank Miele, President of Pegasus Lectures, discusses important physics concepts as they relate to what sonographers do in their everyday practice. The purpose of this video is to review the main concepts of ultrasound physics and connect the main concepts into a cohesive “story” that is both memorable and applicable. Ultrasound physics is organized and discussed as it pertains to 7 steps and/or choices that sonographers make each time they scan a patient.
The video includes a review of ultrasound physics concepts including the creation of the test signal, system settings affecting the transmit signal, characterization of the test signal and medium, signal modulation, detection, display, and interpretation of the ultrasound image. In addition, Frank Miele covers attenuation, impedance, propagation speed, waves, frame rates, transducers, hemodynamics, color Doppler, CW/PW spectral Doppler, scan converters and bioeffects.
