Steven A. Leers, MD, RVT, Named Chair of ARDMS Board of Directors

The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) has announced that Steven A. Leers, MD, RVT, has been appointed as Chair of the ARDMS Board of Directors. He is the first physician Chair of the ARDMS Board, but has served ARDMS in various volunteer roles for over a decade.

Dr. Leers plans to continue to use the ARDMS mission of promoting quality care and patient safety through the certification and continuing competency of ultrasound professionals as a guiding force for old and new programs.

He is a vascular surgeon and has managed vascular laboratories for over 20 years. A native of Springfield, MA, Dr. Leers earned his doctorate at the University of Massachusetts and continued his fellowship there in Peripheral Vascular Surgery. He was Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, for nearly 19 years and is currently Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Dr. Leers earned his RVT credential in 1991 and volunteered as an Exam Development Task Force committee members and a member of the ARDMS Board of Directors.
