LANHAM, MD, May 12, 2006 - Bruce A. Mashburn, a vascular technology student at Coosa Valley Technical College, Rome, GA, has been selected as the student representative on the Board of Directors of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) for the 2006-2007 academic year. A total of 10 vascular ultrasound students were considered for this position.

In this position, Bruce will attend two SVU Board of Director meetings, participate in any SVU Board conference calls, and have an excellent opportunity to learn about the inner workings of the SVU, and in return contribute his input and unique student perspective to the SVU Board discussions. This is a non-paid, non-voting position on the SVU Board of Directors, but SVU will provide a complimentary hotel room for him and reimburse him for his travel expenses to attend each SVU Board meeting. The first SVU Board meeting he will attend is May 31, 2006 in Philadelphia, PA, prior to SVU's 2006 Annual Conference.

He also will become a member of the SVU Chapters Committee and provide input on the needs and activities of SVU's 23 regional affiliated chapters and two student chapters. Bruce also will be profiled in SVU's monthly online e-Spectrum newsletter on the SVU website (www.svunet.org).

At the conclusion of his year-long appointment to the SVU Board of Directors, Bruce will write an article for the e-Spectrum online newsletter describing his experiences in serving on the SVU Board of Directors. He is expected to graduate in April 2007 and enter the vascular ultrasound profession as a vascular technologist.
