October is Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month

07/28/05, Lanham, MD —The Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) recognizes the importance of increasing public awareness of medical ultrasound and promoting its value in our nation's health care. To this end, SVU has joined together with five other members of the ultrasound community to sponsor Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MAUM) annualy every October.

The goal of MAUM is to increase the public's knowledge about medical ultrasound and its many uses in health care. Although much of the general public is familiar with the use of medical ultrasound during pregnancy, many people are unaware that ultrasound can be used throughout all stages of life and for various medical indications.

Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month provides ultrasound professionals with the opportunity to educate the public about the many uses of this fast growing technology, as well as a chance to celebrate their profession.

MAUM is a collaborative effort of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU), the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), and the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS).

Please use the official news release and educational materials Promotion Kit to plan activities in your local community. We also would like to hear what you did to celebrate MUAM in your community.
