Jaqueline Barretto, MD, Receives Prestigious D.E. Strandness Award

LANHAM, MD, July 11, 2005 -- The Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) announces the “The 2005 D.E. Strandness, MD, Scientific Award for Excellence in Research” was presented recently to Jaqueline Barretto, MD, Serviço de Ecocardiografia e Doppler Vascular, Hospital São Lucas, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil, for her scientific paper on “Extracranial Carotid and Vertebral Artery Ultrasonography: Restive Indices for Diagnosing Cerebral Brain Death.”

This award was established in 1987 in honor of D.E. Strandness, the acknowledged “Father of Noninvasive Diagnosis,” who died in January 2002. This award is presented annually to a SVU member who is the primary author and presenter of a scientific paper selected for presentation at the SVU Annual Conference. Its purpose is to recognize outstanding scientific research in vascular technology. Parks Medical Electronics, Aloha, OR, sponsored the 2005 D.E. Strandness, MD Scientific Award for excellence in research. It was presented at SVU’s 28 th Annual Conference, June 16-18, 2005 in Chicago, IL, during The 2005 Vascular Annual Meeting. The 2006 Vascular Annual Meeting is June 1-3 in Philadelphia, PA.
