LANHAM, MD, May 18, 2005 – The Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) is pleased to announce that Robert Sexton of Klamath Falls, OR, was selected as the first Student Representative on the SVU Board of Directors, effective June 1, 2005. Mr. Sexton is a student member of SVU and the former President of the following SVU Affiliated Student Chapter: Oregon Technology Vascular Association (OTVA). He is scheduled to graduate in June 2006 from Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT), Klamath Falls, OR, with a B.S. degree in vascular technology. “This is a great opportunity for a Student Member of SVU to learn about the inner workings of the SVU, and in return contribute his/her input and student perspective to the SVU Board as someone who is new to the field of vascular ultrasound,” said SVU President George Berdejo, BA, RVT, FSVU. As the appointed Student Board Representative, Mr. Sexton will serve a one-year, unpaid, non-voting term on the SVU Board of Directors, and will attend the 2005 SVU Annual Conference, including the SVU Board of Directors meeting, at the Vascular Annual Meeting 2005 in Chicago, June 16-18, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. SVU will reimburse Mr. Sexton for all of his expenses to attend the SVU Board of Directors meeting. The Student Board Representative also serves on either the SVU Chapters Committee or Membership Committee at his/her choosing. At the conclusion of the student’s year-long appointment to the SVU Board of Directors, he will write an article for e-Spectrum, SVU’s member online newsletter, describing his experiences with SVU Board and committee service. The only requirements for any student who applied to SVU for this unique opportunity was: (1) current enrollment in an accredited ultrasound program, and (2) student membership in SVU, which is a great value at only $25/year. SVU looks forward to working more closely with its student members to enhance their careers in the vascular ultrasound profession. # # # Founded in 1977, the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) is the only professional organization completely dedicated to the advancement of non-invasive vascular technology used in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease.
