LANHAM, MD, December 29, 2004 – The Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) has published the fourth quarter December 2004 issue of The Journal for Vascular Ultrasound (JVU), its quarterly peer-reviewed journal. This December JVU issue features the David Philips Memorial Lecture presented by Sergio Salles-Cunha, PhD, RVT, FSVU, at the SVU 27 th Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA, June 5, 2004. The winner of the SVU Pioneer Award presents the David Philips Memorial Lecture each year. Established in 1992, the Pioneer Award is the highest scientific award of SVU and is an acknowledgment of an individual's contribution to the scientific field of noninvasive vascular diagnostics. The Pioneer Award is dedicated to the memory of David Phillips, who contributed to the scientific field of vascular diagnostics with the development of duplex ultrasound and color flow Doppler technology. This year’s Pioneer Award recipient and presenter of the David Philips Memorial Lecture was Sergio Salles-Cunha. Dr. Salles-Cunha discussed “Small Contributions: Stepping Stones in Search of Knowledge” that focused on the teamwork of many small contributions that influenced his life in search of a better understanding of the vascular system in health and disease.
