A Personal Letter to All Fellow Vascular Students and Vascular TechnologistsBy Carol Kozusko |
|
My one year term as SVU’s appointed student representative on the SVU Board of Directors is about to end. As sad as this is for me, I am looking forward to my future career as a vascular technologist and continued involvement in the SVU. This past year on the Board educated me in many different ways, and I would like to share them with you. The first SVU Board meeting I attended as the student representative was in Baltimore, MD, prior to the 2007 SVU Annual Conference. I was warmly welcomed by each Board member before the meeting started and truly made to feel like part of the team. It was during this first meeting I came to learn how dedicated the Board members and Committee Chairs are to preserving the professionalism and quality of vascular ultrasound technology. Often we discussed issues related to student involvement with the SVU. Members were continually brain storming for new ways to benefit SVU student members, both now, and in the future. The 2007 SVU Annual Conference in Baltimore was amazing. I can’t express enough how organized and well planned it was. It consisted of sessions to improve skills, tutorials, and guest speakers throughout each day. Each event offered a wealth of knowledge to leave with. I can’t wait to attend my next SVU Annual Conference! The second Board meeting I attended was held in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, last December. I truly saw firsthand how everyone followed through on their commitments, whether it was how to improve membership or being a vascular ultrasound technologist advocate in Washington, DC. SVU is lead by a team of highly professional vascular technologists who are committed to our future careers. I am proud to have been a part of this team for one year. I truly treasure the friendships and connections I have made during my year on the SVU Board of Directors. I encourage fellow vascular ultrasound students to join our great organization with its numerous student benefits. The cost of student membership is low, only $25/year. SVU offers quality educational tools, numerous educational sessions and workshops, a monthly online newsletter, the online quarterly Journal for Vascular Ultrasound, an excellent annual conference, and an online Student Profile Directory. Many students have been approached by hiring companies through the online Student Directory. It is the students of today who will be the voice of SVU and the vascular ultrasound profession tomorrow. By joining the SVU our voice will be stronger and louder in the vascular ultrasound community. In conclusion, I am proud to have served on the SVU Board as the student representative. I express my sincere thank you to the SVU and its members. As I enter into the vascular ultrasound profession I will continue to support and be active with the SVU, and as a member on its various committees. I welcome anyone to contact me with questions about the student representative position on the SVU Board. Sincerely, Carol Kozusko 2007-2008 SVU Board Student Representative |
