Vicki Gatz Appointed SVU Volunteer/Networking Coordinator

Vicki Gatz There will be a new look for SVU’s various committees/subcommittees in 2008 with the recent appointment of Vicki Gatz, MS, RVT, as the new Volunteer/Networking Coordinator for SVU and the expansion of the Membership Committee. Many of you in the past may have volunteered to work on a specific SVU committee and either did not hear from that committee chair, or were told they had enough volunteers to fill the committee’s work needs at that time. SVU’s goal is to be more inclusive and wants to encourage our members to continue to volunteer and bring new ideas and new blood into our society. Vickie was appointed by the Board to act as the liaison between our volunteering members and the various committee/subcommittee chairs. Members can contact her when interested in joining a SVU committee/subcommittee. A list of the available SVU committees/subcommittees is available on the SVU website at Vicki will speak with you about your specific areas of interest and then contact the appropriate committee/subcommittee chair. If a specific subcommittee, for example CME Subcommittee, does not need help at the time, Vicki will direct the member to the Membership Committee Chair who will help you find an appropriate SVU committee/subcommittee that can use your help.

This segues into our second membership initiative which is too expand the number of individuals serving on the Membership Committee. The Membership Committee now will actually serve two purposes: one, to carry out projects specific to membership recruitment/retention and membership services, and second to act as a resource pool for all other SVU committees/subcommittees or the Board of Directors. When new SVU projects arise and more individuals are needed to carry out the project they can then be pulled from the Membership Committee.

The SVU Board is committed to these membership changes as a way to promote better communication between our valuable members and the national organization, to encourage participation by members interested in serving SVU, and finally as a means to develop the future leaders of our society. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Vicki Gatz by email at vlgatz00@email.uky.edu, or by phone at the University of Kentucky Hospital at 859-323-5119.
