SVU sponsors the following awards: Service AwardsLeadership Award(formerly Cynthia Burnham Award) The most prestigious service award offered by SVU, it is presented to Society members who have made outstanding contributions. AWARD RECIPIENTS Distinguished Service AwardEstablished in 1987, this award recognizes meritorious service to SVU by any member. AWARD RECIPIENTS Honorary MembershipHonorary Membership is bestowed upon individuals who have given outstanding support and/or service to SVU. Current or prior SVU membership is not a prerequisite. Honorary members shall not be required to pay annual membership dues, may vote if they have completed the necessary requirements and received the credential of Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), but may not hold elected office within SVU. AWARD RECIPIENTS Certificate of AppreciationCertificate of Appreciation is bestowed upon individuals or groups in recognition of creative endeavor or outstanding achievement in promoting noninvasive vascular technology. AWARD RECIPIENTS Scientific AwardsProfessional Achievement AwardEstablished in 2006, this scientific award is to be awarded to a past or current member who has made substantial contributions to the vascular technology profession through education (traditional or non-traditional) or scientific research (contributor, implementation or new modality.) Recipient will receive a $1000 award, with $500 given to the award recipient and $500 contributed in the name of the recipient to the Anne Jones Scholarship Fund, and an award plaque. Nominees are solicited from the membership; these are reviewed by the Award Committee and presented to the Board of Directors. A 2/3-majority vote is required for approval. Pioneer AwardEstablished in 1992, this highest scientific award of the Society is an acknowledgment of an individual's contribution to the scientific field of noninvasive vascular diagnostics. The Award is dedicated to the memory of David Phillips, who contributed to the scientific field of vascular diagnostics with the development of duplex ultrasound and color flow Doppler technology. The recipient is expected to prepare a 15-20 minute lecture to be presented as the David Phillips Memorial Lecture at the Annual Conference. The recipient also shall be asked to submit a manuscript for publication in the Journal for Vascular Ultrasound. The names of those eligible to receive this award are presented to the Board of Directors by the Executive Committee. A 2/3 majority vote of the Board is required for approval. The winner receives a cash award and a plaque. D.E. Strandness, MD, Scientific Award for Excellence in ResearchThis award, established in 1987 as the Award for Excellence in Oral Clincial Presentation and named in 2002 in honor of D.E. Strandness, the acknowledged "father of noninvasive vascular diagnosis", is presented annually to a member who is the primary author and presenter of a scientific paper selected for presentation at the Annual Conference. Its purpose is to recognize outstanding scientific research in vascular technology. To be eligible, the primary author and presenter must be a current technologist member of SVU. The Abstracts Committee judges all eligible abstracts and submits the five receiving the highest number of points to the Awards Committee. Members of the Awards Committee review the manuscripts and score the presentations at the annual conference. The award is given to the presenter receiving the highest number of points. The winner receives a cash award and a certificate. Alex Chao, MD, Young Investigator’s AwardA Scientific Award for excellence in a scientific research paper in vascular technology. It is dedicated in memory of Dr. Alex Chao, a vascular surgeon who died on April 22 at the age of 37 of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) acquired from a patient he had treated in Singapore . SARS first emerged in Southern China in 2002. SARS has infected more than 8,000 people in nearly 30 countries and killed nearly 800. Prior to 2004, this award was named the Young Investigator's Award. Alex was the only child of Professor Chao Tzee Cherg, a former President of the Singapore Medical Academy. He trained for three years in Sydney, Australia, acquiring vascular surgical and imaging skills. He had strong links with Australia and at the time of his death, he was actively promoting linkage between the Australian Society for Vascular Ultrasound in Medicine and the Society for Vascular Ultrasound with the Medical Ultrasound Society of Singapore. The winner receives a cash award and an award plaque. AWARD RECIPIENTS Excellence in Oral Clinical Presentation AwardPresented annually to a member who is the primary author and presenter of a clinical paper selected for presentation at the Annual Conference. AWARD RECIPIENTS First-Time Presenters Award for SVU MembersEstablished in 1994, this award is presented annually to a member who is the primary author and first time presenter of a scientific paper selected for presentation at the Annual Conference. Its purpose is to recognize first time presenters of scientific papers. The winner receives a cash award and a certificate. SVU also provides complimentary Conference registration for the next year's Annual Conference. To be eligible, the primary author and presenter must be a current technologist member of SVU. All names of those eligible are sent to the Annual Conference Chairperson and the National Office. Members of the Awards Committee grade the presentations. The award shall be given to the presenter receiving the highest number of points. AWARD RECIPIENTS Physician Presenter AwardEstablished in 1996, this award is presented annually to a physician member who is the primary author and presenter of a scientific paper selected for presentation at the Annual Conference. Its purpose is to promote participation and recognize outstanding physician presenters. The winner is presented with a cash award and a certificate. To be eligible, the primary author and presenter must be a current physician member of SVU. The Abstracts Committee judges all eligible abstracts and submits the five receiving the highest number of points to the Awards Committee. Members of the awards committee review the manuscripts and score the presentations at the annual conference. The award is give to the presenter receiving the highest number of points. Poster AwardsAward for Excellence in a Scientific Poster PresentationThis award, established in 1988, is presented annually to a member who is the primary author and presenter of a scientific poster displayed at the Annual Conference. To be eligible, the primary author and presenter must be a current technologist member of SVU. The Abstracts Committee judges all eligible poster abstracts and submits the five receiving the highest number of points to the Awards Committee. Members of the Awards Committee score the poster presentations and interview the authors at the annual conference. The award is given to the presenter receiving the highest number of points. The winner receives a cash award and a certificate. Award for Excellence in a Case Study Poster PresentationThis award, established in 1988, is presented annually to a member who is the primary author and presenter of a case study poster displayed at the Annual Conference. To be eligible, the primary author and presenter must be a current technologist member of SVU. The Abstracts Committee judges all eligible poster abstracts and submits the five receiving the highest number of points to the Awards Committee. Members of the Awards Committee score the poster presentations and interview the authors at the annual conference. The award is given to the presenter receiving the highest number of points. The winner receives a cash award and a certificate. Best Student Poster Presentation AwardEstablished 2005. Displays of text, photographs, charts, and graphs by a student who is the primary author and presenter on a poster of outstanding research in vascular technology. AWARD RECIPIENTS |
