This 1½-day conference on the latest legislative, regulatory and reimbursement issues affecting the vascular ultrasound profession provides an excellent opportunity for vascular technologists/ sonographers, physicians, lab medical directors, and lab/hospital billing / reimbursement managers to get the current information from those in the know.

 

This conference is filled with information and strategies on how to navigate your way through the complex network of federal government agencies and the Congressional legislators who impact the vascular ultrasound profession, especially in terms of Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement for vascular ultrasound studies performed in a hospital laboratory or independent testing facility. You will have direct access to several expert speakers with a generous amount of time for Q&A. You also will take home several valuable resources and critical information of value to your vascular lab's billing/ reimbursement policy.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
  • Physicians, vascular technologists/ sonographers and others who are working in the vascular ultrasound field and want to update and enhance their knowledge of legislative, regulatory and reimbursement issues affecting the vascular ultrasound profession.
  • Vascular lab directors and lab/hospital billing/reimbursement managers who are seeking to further their understanding of the Medicare billing & reimbursement issues affecting the vascular ultrasound profession.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this SVU Conference attendees should:

  • Know how to receive the appropriate reimbursement for your vascular lab studies.
  • Know what's new in billing and coding for vascular labs.
  • Understand the CMS proposed rule for the CY 2010 Physician Fee Schedule and its impact on your vascular lab.
  • Be aware of pending federal health care reform legislation and state licensure legislation that will impact the vascular ultrasound profession.
  • Be aware of current regulatory issues affecting the vascular ultrasound profession and the recent efforts on them of SVU's Advocacy Committee.
  • Understand the various CMS policies/regulatory issues affecting vascular labs, such as pay-forperformance.
  • Know why and when the ICD-9 Codes are being replaced by ICD-10 Codes.
  • Know how to stay out of trouble and understand what clinical and practice actions could result in a possible government investigation of your lab.
  • Know why your vascular lab should be accredited by ICAVL.
  • Understand why state Local Coverage Determinations are changing under the Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) and the impact of those changes on your lab.
  • Understand why SVU, through the Coalition for Quality in Ultrasound (CQU), is in complete support for a credentialing and/or accreditation requirement in LCDs for reimbursement for vascular lab studies.
  • Understand why SVU, through its participation in the Sonography Licensure Coalition, supports efforts for state licensure legislation, such as in New Mexico and in Oregon.
  • Know why the halls of Congress are the new battlefield where decisions are being made about managing the use of imaging services, including vascular ultrasound studies.
