Proposed Rule issued by CMS for 2008 Medicare Physician Fee ScheduleThe proposed rule calls for an estimated update to the physician fee schedule for 2008 of a minus 9.9 percent. Now it is up to Congress, as they have done in recent years, to intervene and prevent the implementation of the negative reimbursement update for physicians for 2008. Comments on the proposed rule will be accepted until August 31, 2007; SVU will work with Bill Sarraille in submitting comments on the proposed rule. Read the report... GAO ReportDeficit Reduction ActCMS Announces Final Rule for the 2007 Physician Fee Schedule Rates and PoliciesSidley Austin, SVU's regulatory/legislative advocacy firm, has written a qualitative analysis of the final physician fee schedule (PFS) and hospital outpatient department (HOPD) rules for 2007. The rules implement, effective 1/01/07, the image cuts found in the Deficit Reduction Act, but the PFS final rule excludes several ultrasound codes not initially excluded in the PFS proposed rule. CMS Proposed Rule on Medicare Physician FeeCMS issued a proposed rule on Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for 2007 and additional rules for Medicare payment for hospital outpatient services in 2007 that would implement new steps to make "payments more accurate and to promote higher quality and value in outpatient care."
