When the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS)
filed on 10/30/08 its Final Rule for the “Payment Policies Under
the Physician Fee Schedule and Other Revisions to Part B for CY 2009,”
CMS did not include any IDTF provisions in the 2009 Final Rule to require
physicians who furnish diagnostic testing services to enroll as an independent
testing facility 9IDTF). In light of the recent passage (7/15/08) of
the MIPPA legislation by Congress, CMS had decided to defer implementation
of its IDTF proposals while it continues to review the many public comments
on the IDTF proposals.
